Big Sur Revealed

Photography Tour and Workshop

Saturday, March 18

The rugged coastline of Big Sur provides stunning photographic opportunities all times of the year, but during the spring the hillsides turn bright green and wildflowers are in full bloom. In this intensive one day tour we will visit many of the iconic locations along the Big Sur coast, from Soberanes to McWay Falls, as well as places that are not as well known. Photographic assistance will be provided to all participants and we will review such topics as using histograms to ensure correct exposure and incorporating slower time exposures to soften the movement of the water. In the image above I used a 5 stop neutral density filter to soften the movement of the water and added a 2 stop split neutral density filter to darken the sky. We can experiment with these filters along the coast. While this is not a beginning workshop, please do not be intimidated about participating and feel free to ask questions. It is my philosophy that everyone goes through similar learning stages as their photographic skills progress and it is my goal to leave you excited about your photography so that you are anxious to return and keep shooting. Learning photographic skills involves progressing to higher and higher plateaus, and you should feel that you have stepped up to a new level at the end of the day.

Each participant must have a digital SLR camera, a couple of lenses and a stable tripod. Optional equipment may include neutral density filters, a cable release and a circular polarizing filter. If  you plan to purchase new equipment, please feel free to contact me and let me assist you with recommendations.

This tour will be limited to 10 participants and costs $250.00 per person.  Each
participant will receive a copy of my booklet titled Photographing The Landscape.

Please click here for a registration form.

Please click here for a liability release form.

Please fill out and return both of these forms and mail them to me along with a non-refundable deposit check of $75.00 to register for this workshop.

We will stop for lunch in Big Sur at the River Inn and the lunch cost is not included in the workshop fee.

Please dress in layers, particularly for the evening--it can get quite cold. Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes,  and bring water, snacks and a positive attitude!
